Why does not the Chinese rose bloom and how to solve the problem?

The Chinese rose or hibiscus belongs to the Malvaceae family. It has about 300 species.

It grows in the wild, and it can also be successfully grown at home. It occurs in countries with tropical and subtropical climates, such as South China and Indonesia, as well as on the islands of Java, Fiji, Sumatra and Sri Lanka.

We will explain why sometimes a Chinese rose does not bloom at home and what to do if it happened.

What does the plant look like?

Hibiscus is an evergreen or deciduous plant that can be a shrub or even a tree. Leaves grow alternately on petioles. The flowers are large, bright in color, located at the top of the shoot, have more than three under the cup leaves. A plant can bloom in almost any color except black or blue.

Depending on the species, the flower can reach up to 30 cm. Its fruit has the shape of a box, it contains seeds. Rose bush can live up to 20 years. In favorable conditions, it is able to grow up to three meters high.

Chinese rose (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) is considered the most popular species for indoor cultivation. It grows in the form of a bush and has red, large, double flowers.

When does flowering occur in an apartment?

Important! If you properly care for the rose, it is able to bloom all year.

To do this, you need:

  • heat;
  • enough space and light;
  • proper watering and pruning.

However, it is not always possible to adhere to all these conditions. As a rule, in a room, flowering plants last 2-3 months a year, from July to September.

Almost all varieties of Chinese roses have odorless flowers, but sometimes there are instances with a pleasant fragrant aroma.

How to understand that hibiscus will bloom soon?

The appearance of buds on the plant suggests that the Chinese rose will bloom in the near future. Typically, flowers bloom in the morning, and in the evening - wither.

With proper care, a rose can give up to 20 inflorescences in one day.

Why doesn’t bloom?

There are several reasons why flowering does not occur:

  1. Improper care. The plant itself is not whimsical, but with improper care, problems can arise. What can not be done:

    • keep the flower in a hot and dry room;
    • do not spray regularly, especially in summer;
    • to put the pot in a draft or in direct sunlight;
    • often watered, this leads to rotting of the flower;
    • water with non-settled water, it may contain harmful impurities;
    • not transplant and fertilize at the right time;
    • Turn the flower over to the sun.
  2. The disease. All diseases are associated with improper care. Observing the features of care, hibiscus will quickly recover. Necessary conditions to return the plant to normal:

    • regular watering without drying out or overfilling;
    • finding a rose in partial shade;
    • fertilizing during flowering - once a week, then - once a month;
    • in autumn and winter, the air temperature should be + 15C, watering should be minimal;
    • spray the flower every day;
    • good drainage in the ground.
  3. Pests. Parasites can appear during transplantation if the soil has been infected. Also in contact with diseased plants:

    • aphid destroys young leaves and unopened buds, covering them with a sticky layer;
    • the spider mite lives under the leaves and envelops them with a thin film;
    • whitefly covers the leaves with a sticky liquid, which makes them yellow;
    • worms leave a waxy discharge on the leaves;
    • with the appearance of scutes, tubercles appear on the stems of brown color;
    • gall midge eats buds from the inside.

How to deal with parasites:

  1. soap solution will help get rid of aphids;
  2. insecticides are good for scale insects;
  3. mineral oil removes the insect;
  4. potassium soap destroys whitefly;
  5. treatment from a spider mite is saved by a soap solution.

How to make a plant give buds?

For the rose to bloom, it needs stimulation that will “force” it to release buds. This requires regular pruning of branches.

Remember! The buds of a Chinese rose appear only on young branches that appeared this year after pruning. If you do not carry out this procedure, the plant is almost impossible to bloom.

It is not recommended to prune the flower in the summer. The bush will stop giving flowers.

What to do for stimulation?

It is always important to remember that proper plant care is the key to its flowering on time. Consider how to care for a Chinese rose so that it blooms. To do this, you must:

  1. Place the rose on a south or east window so that the light is slightly shaded during the daytime sun. If you put the pot in the shade, there will be no flowering.
  2. Wintering should be correct, with a temperature not lower than + 10C, otherwise the rose will throw off all the leaves.
  3. The pot should be small so that the root system is hardly placed in it, then flowering will be regular.
  4. Clay turf must be present in the composition of the soil.
  5. Pruning should be regular, if the bush does not grow much, it will be difficult for it to bloom.
  6. Pour with soft water, free of chlorine.
  7. Fertilize the soil.
  8. Avoid drafts and temperature changes.

Fertilizing is needed in summer and autumn. Fertilizers should be used with a high phosphorus content, they allow flowering to be lush. The main thing is not to overdo it. Too much fertilizing can harm the flower.

Fertilizer must be diluted in warm water, which was previously infused. You can also spray the plant with special substances that contain nitrogen. Only the flowers themselves need to be protected from the solution; if they get on the petals, white spots appear.

Prevention

The best prevention for a flower is the proper care of it. All of the above actions will provide the plant with full life activity.

Aftercare at home

Important! After flowering, the plant needs rest. Before wintering, it must be cut. All stems are cut off and short stumps of about 10 cm are left.

"Resting" indoor rose from October to February. Optimum air temperature - up to + 16C. Watering should be moderate, it is not necessary to fertilize the soil. Daylight hours can last up to 10-11 hours. If the room is dark, you can use a phytolamp.

Flower buds appear on the "rested" plant. Soon they begin to turn into buds. After rest, the flower must be returned to heat, begin abundant watering and top dressing.

The Chinese rose is a gorgeous flower that will decorate any room. His flowering will be a reward for those who take care of him and provide the necessary care.
