How to make a coffee table yourself
Old tires are an excellent material for making furniture yourself. To diversify and complement the interior with an unusual elegant detail, you can make a coffee table from them.
1. Choose and clean our material!
Take a clean tire. The tread pattern does not affect the quality of the table, it is important that there are no mechanical damage on the tire - cuts or punctures, the strength of the structure depends on this.
Lather and brush the tire thoroughly inside and out. If possible, it is better to do it on the street so as not to stain the room.
Wash off soap and rubbish
Repeat as necessary
Let the tire dry
2. Measure and cut
Determine the diameter of the tire using a centimeter tape. A round blank for the table top will need to be cut out of plywood, chipboard or fiberboard.
Draw a circle of the required diameter on the plywood, and then cut it with a jigsaw. When working with do not forget to wear safety glasses.
3. Measurement and manufacture of the bottom
The blank for the base of the table should be slightly smaller than the countertop. Therefore, the diameter of the circle for the lower part must be reduced by 5 centimeters. Cut out and set aside the part.
4. Fastening the legs on the bottom of the table
On the smaller of the blanks, it is necessary to determine the location for the legs. For stability, three or four legs should be located not far from the outer edge of the circle at an equal distance from each other.
Glue the legs with carpentry glue to the bottom of the table. Before attaching to self-tapping screws, the glue should dry properly.
After the glue has completely dried, strengthen the legs with the help of corner fasteners.
5. Time to glue
Using construction glue, fix the top and bottom of the table to the tire. You should start from the bottom, while there should be a sufficient amount of glue.
6. Painting the lower wooden parts of the table
The bottom and legs of the table should be covered with several layers of paint or varnish. At this stage of manufacturing, you can give free rein to imagination and make the table colorful, decorate with drawings or patterns. Or you can use the rope as a decor. How to do it? Let's look further.
7. Decorate
The side parts of the table must be wrapped with rope. First you need to put building glue on the tire, and then wind the rope over its entire surface.
The rope must be wound very tightly, so that there are no gaps. The surface in advance is covered with glue.
8. The table is ready!
You can place it in any convenient place.
